Floor demolition and subfloor prep in East Texas

A new floor is only as good as what's underneath it. East Texas Floor Source handles every step before installation begins - old floor demolition, haul-away, dust control, moisture testing, and subfloor leveling - so the new floor lays flat, locks in tight, and isn't squeaking two years down the road.

We work on every flooring type: glue-down tile, nailed-down hardwood, floating laminate, sheet vinyl, and bonded carpet, across both slab and pier-and-beam construction, which covers just about every home style you'll find around Wood County. We show up with the right gear - chipping hammers, ride-on scrapers, HEPA vacuums, self-leveler - and leave the space ready for the next crew.

What's included in our demo and prep service

We work to a fixed scope so there's nothing to negotiate mid-project. Every demo and prep job follows the same baseline checklist.

  • Full removal of existing flooring (tile, hardwood, vinyl, carpet, laminate)
  • Plastic sheeting and HEPA vacuum dust control
  • Old material haul-away and disposal
  • Subfloor inspection for rot, moisture damage, and structural issues
  • Moisture testing with calibrated meters
  • Self-leveling compound to flatten high and low spots
  • Final sweep so the new-floor crew can start right away

Why dust control matters more than people expect

Old thinset, tile mastic, and hardwood adhesives can carry silica dust, glue residue, and occasionally asbestos in homes built before 1990. We seal off work areas with plastic, run HEPA-filtered air scrubbers, and wear proper PPE - standard practice on commercial demo, but not something most residential crews bother with. The result is a job you can live next to without scrubbing dust out of your kitchen for weeks afterward.

Subfloor leveling - the step a lot of installers skip

A subfloor out of level by more than 1/8" over 6 feet will cause LVP and laminate joints to fail within months. Tile set over an uneven slab will crack. We level every job to the manufacturer's required tolerance using self-leveling underlayment, and we patch any soft spots before we call a floor ready. It's the difference between a floor that lasts and one you're pulling up again in three years.

Floor Demolition & Prep - frequently asked questions

Yes - haul-away and disposal are built into the demo price. You won't find a scrap of old tile or carpet left at the curb.

We run HEPA-filtered air scrubbers, plastic sheeting, and vacuum-shrouded chipping tools. Compared to a typical demo job, you'll see roughly 90% less dust making it into adjacent rooms.

We check during the estimate. If it's within the manufacturer's tolerance - usually 1/8" over 6 feet - no leveling is needed. If it's outside that, we quote the leveling as a separate line item so you see exactly what it adds.

Vinyl tile and mastic installed before 1990 sometimes does. If we suspect it, we pause the job, send a sample out for testing, and bring in a licensed abatement contractor if it comes back positive. We resume prep work once the area's been cleared.
