Why porcelain outlasts every other tile
Porcelain is fired at a higher temperature from a denser clay than standard ceramic, which makes it less than 0.5% porous, harder than granite, and rated for commercial-grade traffic. East Texas Floor Source installs porcelain tile from Daltile and American Olean in homes and small businesses across East Texas - it's what our owners put in their own home, too.
Modern porcelain comes in wood-look planks, marble-look slabs, concrete-look squares, and outdoor-rated textured tile, so you can get the look of nearly any natural material without the upkeep that comes with the real thing.

Where porcelain is the right call
Porcelain is the safest choice for any wet, high-traffic, or high-value space, and it handles our East Texas summers - freeze-thaw isn't much of a concern here, but sun exposure and humidity are, and porcelain shrugs off both.
- Wood-look porcelain planks - the look of hardwood with none of the moisture risk
- Large-format slabs (24x48, 32x32) - fewer grout lines and a more open, modern feel
- Marble and stone-look porcelain - the look of natural stone without a sealing schedule
- Covered patios and outdoor entertaining areas - slip-resistant finishes available
- Small commercial spaces - durable enough for retail and restaurant traffic

Porcelain demands precision. Large-format and plank-shaped tiles show every dip in the subfloor - even 1/8" will telegraph through. We laser-level every floor, use leveling clips on every install, and back-butter every plank for full mortar coverage.
We also use the right tools for the material. Porcelain dulls a standard wet saw blade fast, so we run rim-segmented diamond blades and a porcelain-rated grinder wheel for clean cuts at every outlet, vent, and corner.

Porcelain Tile - frequently asked questions
It is - denser, less porous, and harder. For floors, wet rooms, and anywhere that sees heavy traffic, the small price step up from ceramic is worth it.
Modern wood-look porcelain is remarkably convincing, especially in wider plank widths with a textured surface. Most people can't tell without getting down and touching it.
The tile itself is extremely hard, but it can crack if the subfloor flexes underneath it. That's why we use uncoupling membranes on plywood subfloors and any large-format installation.
Depends on the finish. We recommend a matte or textured finish for bathrooms, entries, and any outdoor space; polished porcelain is better reserved for dry rooms only.
