Mosaic tile - the detail that finishes a room

Mosaic tile is the detail that takes a project from finished to genuinely designed. A single feature wall, shower floor, or backsplash band in glass, marble, or penny-round mosaic gives a room a custom-built feel that flat tile alone can't deliver. Mosaic is also our first recommendation for shower floors - the small pieces follow the slope to the drain without lippage, and the extra grout lines add slip resistance right where you want it most.

Most mosaics come on mesh or paper-faced sheets roughly 12x12. The real skill is in the seams between sheets - line them up wrong and a grid pattern shows across the whole wall or floor. We dry-lay every sheet first, hand-pull individual tiles to break up the pattern at sheet edges, and use white thinset under glass mosaics so the true color comes through.

Glass mosaics need extra care - we cut them with a wet saw and diamond blade rather than snapping them, and we use non-sanded grout so the glass faces don't get scratched.
