Hardwood staircases built by hand in Wood County
A staircase is the first thing most guests see walking in, and it's one of the hardest-working surfaces in the house. East Texas Floor Source designs and installs hardwood stairs across East Texas that feel solid underfoot, match the rest of your flooring, and hold up to decades of family traffic.
We handle the whole job in one visit: pulling old carpet or treads, leveling the structure underneath, custom-milling nosings to match your hardwood, installing treads and risers, and finishing with a low-VOC sealer. That means one crew, one schedule, and one warranty.

Solid or engineered treads - which one fits your staircase
Solid oak, maple, and hickory treads remain the gold standard for staircases. They can be sanded and refinished multiple times, and a well-built solid tread will outlast a 30-year mortgage without complaint.
Engineered treads make sense when you're matching an existing engineered floor, or when the staircase sits over a concrete slab. They stay dimensionally stable through our humid summers, resist squeaks better, and look identical to solid wood once they're finished.
- Red oak, white oak, maple, hickory, walnut - all stocked and ready to order
- Custom stains color-matched to your existing floor, with free sample boards
- Open-end, boxed, curved, and winding staircases
- Matching nosings milled in-house when the manufacturer doesn't carry one

Learn moreWhat installation day actually looks like
Day one is demo and prep - we pull out old carpet, treads, or tile, vacuum out the staircase, and shim any loose stringer so the finished stairs don't squeak. Day two is treads, risers, and nosings, set with construction adhesive and finish nails so there's nothing visible. Day three is finishing: stain if you've chosen one, three coats of polyurethane, and a final detail pass before we walk you through it.

Matching your stairs to the rest of your floor
Most homeowners want the staircase to read as part of the same floor, not a separate project bolted on later. We pull from the same stain batch used on your hardwood flooring or a hardwood refinishing job, and match the finish sheen so the stairs blend rather than stand out. If you'd rather go with deliberate contrast - dark treads against painted white risers, say - we'll build a sample board first so you can see it before we order a single plank.

Hardwood Stairs - frequently asked questions
Yes. We pull the carpet, padding, staples, and tack strip, then inspect what's underneath. Solid existing treads can usually be built on top of; particleboard or damaged treads get replaced as part of the job.
A standard 14-stair job runs 2 to 3 days - demo the first day, install the second, finish the third. You can walk on the stairs the next morning, with a full cure around 7 days out.
That's the goal on nearly every job. We bring stain samples out to your home, brush them onto the same wood species, and let you choose before we order anything, so you're seeing the real color on real wood rather than a brochure swatch.
No more than any other hard surface. We finish with a matte or satin polyurethane rated for lower slip, and for households with young kids or older relatives we can add discreet anti-slip strips tucked under the nosing.
